Donations are essential to us for feeding the children this time !
What is the COSO find the fund ?
COSO’s main source of funding is provided by the generosity of tourists traveling through Siem Reap, who come to visit and donate for support the children in COSO. These contributions are essential to us for feeding the children and meeting the other running costs of the orphanage.
By choosing to donate to our urgent running cost, your contribution will go directly towards buying rice, food, cooking supplies, meats, fishes, vegetables, shampoo, soap, diesel, gasoline, and basic medical supplies. In addition to these costs, we require funding for long term maintenance and improvement of COSO.
Our Chidren Need at COSO !
We have already mentioned our need for a piece of freehold land together with a building programme. This is becoming urgent as we have three years of our lease left, and our landlord wants to use the land after this time for his children to build their homes. We are hoping to receive some help with this project from a sponsor in Australia, but it is a big venture, and we need to raise money ourselves in order for them to consider matching it. At present we are caring for 52 children between the ages of 2 and 17. Eight of these children are orphans, 22 children have only one living parent who is unable for reasons of illness or extreme poverty to provide any care, and 22 of our children have parents who again are unable to care for them because of illness or grinding poverty. Life is very hard if a parent cannot find any form of paid work. Our children each eat three meals a day, which costs about US$1.66 per child. In addition, we need to clothe them with both school uniforms and play clothes, provide shoes, mosquito nets, mats for their beds, (and they would love the comfort of mattresses) We must have medical and school supplies, detergent, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste and of course we need petrol for our tuk-tuk and diesel for our generator, since we have no electricity on site. The generator is used only when absolutely necessary; it fires the computer, and we must constantly press “Save” in case the generator fails, as it frequently does. It also provides some television viewing for the children when it is too dark to play outside.
Donations in cash or in kind are very much appreciated and however small the gift, it helps us in our daily struggle to provide the daily basic needs of fifty children and 14 carers.

Joan Tan Ai Cheng, Cynthia Chin, Yap Chui Hoon and Lau Yu Cheng of Passion Connection of Singapore !
|
On 7 March 2010, COSO welcomed the visit by an informal group named “Passion Connection” from Singapore. This group consist of 4 young, passionate ladies who expressed keen interest to provide volunteering service for the children in COSO. Their lesson plans include English, making handicrafts like pencil holders, greeting cards and crochet hair accessories.
on 8 March 2010, This group of 4 young of Passion Connection of Singapore is donated as 40 sacks of rice, 30 bottles of cooking oil, 50 packets of sugar, 50 packets of salt, 480 literes of diesel, 592 litres of gasoline, 7 pieces of torchlight, 1 set (with 2 panels) of solar system, 7 books of dictionary, 82 books of storybooks, 100 books of exerise book, 50 pieces of lunch box, 50 pieces of water bottle, 20 bottles of shampoo, 30 bags of washing powder, 50 pieces of towel,..etc.
The training plan by Passion Connection worked out very well as the children in COSO enjoyed all the new learning so much and it was great to see them making the items that were taught. We hope that these useful life skills equipped by the children can be put into good use and they would eventually be able to break through this poverty cycle one day.
We shared with the ladies of Passion Connection about the needs of COSO whilst we were happy to learn that apart from coming to teach and train the children, they were prepared to give some donations-in-kind to COSO to help out in our daily needs. Way back in Singapore, they have already put in immense effort soliciting donations from their friends and network so that these consolidated efforts can provide even greater help to COSO! It was definitely heart-warming to know that there are so many kind souls in Singapore who are ready to help a cause like COSO.
It came as a great surprise when they told us the amount of items that they would be donating, this is the first time ever that COSO received such huge donations from one single party! We were totally thrilled as the donations would means sustaining COSO’s operations for at least the next 3 – 4 months. Few days later, a Solar System was donated when they saw how dependent we were on the generator which runs on diesels. This Solar System is definitely a good way to lower the operation costs in COSO.
11 March 2010 depict the last day the 4 ladies of Passion Connection is with COSO. Before they depart, another piece of good news was brought to us, which was truly like a god-send gift. They decided to give some cash donations to COSO for the purpose of us acquiring our new land. No words could describe how grateful and thankful we were towards their kindness and generosity as this piece of new land means a world to COSO.
On behalf of the staff and all children of COSO, we sincerely thank Passion Connection once again for everything they did that has helped make COSO an even better place!
