The Cambodia Development Fund (CDF) is newly established, and was set up to find the volunteers for support and running cost of the COSO organisations. This is called the CDF-Volunteer Project. It doesn’t matter what background you come from - we have volunteers of all ages and abilities joining us every week for an amazing time. Maybe you have just retired, are taking a gap year before University or want to use your two weeks holiday to do something different. Young or old, rich or poor, experienced or inexperienced, ever families with children, you will receive a very warm welcome and your contribution will make a major difference to peoples lives.
Once you have decided you are interested in volunteering the first stage is to contact us and we will ask you to complete a simple application form to give us your basic details and the dates you areavailable. There is a minimum agelimit of 18 unless accompanied by a parent. We welcome of the volunteer family and the beneficiaries of the project. We ask all our volunteers to make a donation which will be used to run the projects and cover some of the volunteer’s costs. Your donation may be as little as US$5 per day. This will cover the cost of your mid-day meal and the petrol needed to run the orphanage Tuk-Tuk which will collect you and take you home again. We do not want anyone who would like to volunteer to be put off because they cannot make a larger donation and we do need your help! We are non-profit making and receive funds to run our projects from tourist and volunteers donations and through our own fund raising. It costs about US$1.66 a day to feed a child and we need about US$ 2,600 a month to cover the running costs of the COSO orphanage. If you would like to visit of volunteer for COSO, we could always use your help ! Whether it is to teach English, play games, or simply give children some loving attention, our staff will be happy to assist you. Please contact Mr. Sean Samnang, president of COSO.
What can you expect when you arrive ?

The Cambodian Orphan Save Organization (COSO) was founded since 2006 by Mr. Sean Samnang, a local Cambodian, who recognized the urgent need to help the many destitute and orphaned children living in his country. This situation being brought about because Cambodia’s education and health care systems were completely destroyed during the Khmer Rouge Genocide and Cambodia has been unable to make significant gains in rebuilding it because of the subsequent 2 decades long civil war. Now corruption is rampant and Cambodia’s education and health care systems remains in shambles. Siem Reap its self is one of the poorest in the Cambodia with over 75% of the poor people living in dire poverty.
We ask all our volunteers to help us with our present and future work by making a donation. Details of the donation levels are listed below:

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life. The minimum age is 18, unless a volunteer is accompanied by a responsible adult, and families can all volunteer together. Those who are enjoying retirement but wanting to extend themselves will find they can be flexible with their time and energy, agreeing hours that suit them. Volunteers are able to offer so much to our children; you may be a trained teacher, or simply a natural one or you may enjoy sharing handicraft skills; you may enjoy sports activities with eager boys and girls, or you may like quieter pastimes such as looking at books and talking with the children. Every child will benefit from individual attention given by volunteers, and you will be encouraging them to use their English language skills. There are all sorts of ways you can help even if you do not speak English. We do not expect our volunteers to make any fixed donation beyond asking you to contribute $2.50 USD a day if you eat a meal with us and $2.50 USD a day if you use our tuk-tuk for travel from your hotel or guest house and back. We are about 7 kilometres out of Siem Reap. Of course, if you wish to, then we should greatly appreciate any other financial help or donations in kind that you are able to give.
We do ask that, if you are planning ahead on volunteering, you email us so that we know when you expect to be with us. However, if you find yourselves in Siem Reap with a day or two to spare, then do just turn up and help in any way you are able. |
